Fast Start / Ugh / Great Finish

Fished with Mark today, he’s an excellent fisherman and regular on my boat. We had a really fast start to the day blasting maybe 10 HUGE Bluefish. That bite lasted a couple hours at the end of the ebb. For a couple of hours we couldn’t miss. From there with high hopes and a tide change, we went on the hunt for False Albacore. We looked on the flood tide everywhere from way east of Watch Hill to Plum Gut and on our coast from Millstone to Groton/Long Point. Only found one tiny pod of Albies. And those were the only fish of any sort we found. Finally, after 60 plus miles of searching, we ran into fish under birds at Fishers Island. Had another hour plus with Bluefish and Albies blasting bait and could barely get a jig in the water without catching one. For that hour it was a full on fall blitz. Alberts, Bluefish and bait everywhere. It was really a thrill to see and a nice reward for all our searching. Anyway, False Albacore FEW and FAR between but if you search long enough you’ll find them.
