Montauk Madness

Fished yesterday with Rob and his pal John from Southern CT.  We wanted Albies on the fly rod so off to Montauk we headed. Finally had a gorgeous day with light winds and warm weather.  We got to Montauk right at the change to the ebb tide and to be honest it was looking pretty slow.  I was hoping we didn’t make the run for nothing.  Slow didn’t stay on our minds for long though.  We found ourselves in Striper heaven. For the last 3.5 hours of the ebb we were in acres (and I mean acres too) of blitzing Stripers. Almost every time Rob put the fly in the mix he was bit. And this went on for the whole time we were there. We lost count of the fish after the first dozen so who knows how many.  To make things better we didn’t have to fight off other boats. Almost all our fish were caught with us and one other guide until a third showed up.  Even then we had the fish all to ourselves. So John ended with all he could handle on the spinning rod and Rob caught them with abandon on the fly rod. It’s a day I’ll never forget and I shared it with two really good guys. Can’t wait to fish them again.
