So I fished a double yesterday. The afternoon trip was remarkable in that on the flood tide I finally found birds on bait with fish on top. I was fishing with Dick from East Lyme CT. Dick is an experienced fisherman and our hope was to get in some Striper fishing so off we went to Plum Island. Truth is the striper bite wasn’t on all that much but….. we were rewarded with the first fish on the surface for the season. We finally had water over 60 degrees and that magic number really does make a difference for light tackle and fly rod fisherman. Anyway we ended up chasing birds for and extra hour and a half. I was so excited to get the year officially kicked off and didn’t want to leave the birds. Ended up with a bunch of bluefish, all on 14 lb test, all on tins or paddle tails and all ON TOP & UNDER BIRDS!!! Looking forward to fishing with Dick again.
